Leadership. Leadership is the desire and will to help others in need. Leadership is an act of kindness. We have grown up in a world with a bunch of liars, greedy humans, and even horrendous monsters that dare enslave children. But we can change that. If we learned how to show compassion and to forgive each other, instead of holding grudges, we would be living in paradise.
Sometimes I wonder, I wonder about the all the child soldiers, about all the 250 million children who are forced to work each day under harsh conditions and I wonder why. Why do they have to suffer while we go to school, we have malls, we have many luxuries. Our generation has grown up in a very materialistic world. And again, we can change that. Happiness doesn’t come from what you have in your life, but what you choose to do with it.
In the words of Carl Bard he says, “Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start now and make a brand new ending.” As much as I will miss leadership here, I know many new doors will open for me, for us. We have had our turn and now it is yours. Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way.
I will end my speech with another quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and conveniences, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
